Ahead of its time, Alfa Romeo ‘electrifies’ the 33

In the 1970s, consumptions and emissions became increasingly important in automotive design and together with cutting-edge systems like the CEM – Controllo Elettronico Motore (Electronic Engine Control) – Alfa Romeo started experimenting with bolder solutions as well. One of them was hybrid propulsion, obtained by combining the 4-cylinder boxer with an electric Ansaldo engine. Installed on a 33 Giardinetta, this new technology had time to be tested and presented before the project was postponed.
