The Nürburgring circuit holds a special place in the history of Alfa Romeo. In the past – starting from Tazio Nuvolari’s legendary victory at the German GP in 1935 – but also in the present.
Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the most recent addition to the Alfa Romeo brand, in fact already won the title of the fastest SUV in the world when it set a new category record on the German circuit. Stelvio covered the more than 20 kilometers of the Nordschleife (northern ring) in a record time of 7 minutes, 51 seconds and 7 tenths of a second, breaking the previous record in the SUV category by eight seconds. Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s record was set by Fabio Francia, the same driver who, on the very same Nürburgring, broke the record in the four-door sedan category on board the Giulia Quadrifoglio with a time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
The Museo Alfa Romeo in Arese will pay homage to the “queens” of the Nürburgring with a special exhibit, in the museum foyer, dedicated to the cars which, in recent years, conquered records on the “Ring”.
First among all, the 4C in its experimental version, which set the record of 8’04’’ in 2013, the best performance among vehicles with a power of less than 250 Cv. Behind the wheel was Horst Von Saurma.
Then there was the Giulia Quadrifoglio with manual transmission, with which Fabio Francia closed the lap in 7’ 39’’ in September of 2015. It will be displayed in the configuration and with the camouflages with which he marked this record time.
And finally, the Giulia Quadrifoglio with an 8-gear automatic shift that covered the Nürburgring in 7’ 32’’, a time that is proudly displayed on the bonnet, together with the outline of the “Green Inferno” and the signatures of driver Fabio Francia and the entire staff who worked on the vehicle’s preparation. Visitors will also get a chance to see the full video of the record set by Stelvio.
